Decoding Safety Footwear Terms: A Guide to Workplace Safety

All Mallcom’s Safety footwear incorporates protective features to protect the wearer from injuries, which could arise through accidents, fitted with toe caps, Mallcom Safety Shoes are designed to give protective against impact when tested at an energy level of at least 200 joules and against compression when tested at a compression load of at least 15  kilo newtons.

Full Grain Leather

Full grain refers to the strongest and most durable part of the hide of an animal, which is just below the hair and has not been sanded, buffed or snuffed (as opposed to corrected grain), which means it displays the more natural characteristics of leather. Unlike other grades, no sanding or chemical treatments are applied before entering the tanning process. Full grain leather shoes retain the maximum thickness, oil absorption, and natural grains from the original outer layer of the animal hide. No sanding or chemical treatments are applied, resulting in a high-quality, durable product that’s perfect for leather safety shoes.

Corrected Grain Leather

Corrected grain leather is leather that has been sanded and buffed to remove imperfections such as scars from the surface of the material. Nubuck is an example of corrected grain.

Split Leather

Split leather is found on the bottom part of the leather, after the leather has been split. Split leather is crafted from the fibrous part of the hide once the top grain has been separated from the rawhide.

Insole

Non-removable component used to form the base of the shoe to which the upper is usually attached during the lasting.

Insock

Removable or permanent footwear component  used to cover part of the insole.

Lining

Material covering the inner surface of the upper.

Vamp Lining

Material covering the inner surface of the forepart of the upper

Quarter Lining

Material covering the inner surface of the quarters of the upper.

Cleats

Protruding part of the outer surface of the sole.

Rigid Outsole

Sole which, when the complete footwear is tested cannot be bent through an angle of 45 degree under a load of 30 Newtons.

Cellular Outsole

Outsole having a density of 0.9g/ml or less than a cell structure visible under a 10X magnification.

Penetration Resistant Insert

Footwear component placed in the sole complex in order to provide protection against penetration.

Safety Toe Cap

Footwear component built into the footwear designed to protect the toes of the wearer from impacts up to an energy level of at least 200Joules and compression at a load of at least 15KN.

Conducive Footwear

Footwear whose resistance lies in the range of 0 to 100k.

Antistatic Footwear

Footwear whose resistance lies above 100k and is less than or equal to 1000N.

Electrically Insulating Footwear

Footwear which protects the wearer against electrical shocks by preventing the passage of dangerous currents through the body via the feat.

Slip-resistant

Mallcom’s slip-resistant shoes feature a unique patented PANTM sole design, providing superior grip on any surface. This makes our slip-resistant shoes unique in the industry, ensuring stability on any kind of surface and preventing slips.

Shock Absorbent

The shock Absorbent insole of our leather safety shoes makes the feet of the worker less tired and provides easy comfort to the harsh working conditions of a factory environment and shop floor. This is again patented on the “Massue” system that keeps the feet relaxed. The ends of the feet are best massaged while walking and flexing which keeps the worker less fatigued.

Electrostatic

Mallcom’s range of safety shoes for industrial use also includes ESD (electro static discharge) version to prevent or limit electrostatic charging and to ensure that any charges generated are diverted in a controlled manner. These ESD safety shoes are available for applications where people work with electrical sensitive equipment and parts like semiconductors and computer chips.
